Review of all NFL Mock Drafts
Summary: Reading ANY mock draft and thinking you now know how the draft is going to go is foolish. Not one single “expert” has it right as it is impossible.
There are too many variables this far out to even be close to right outside of the Top eight picks. Miami could select any of Three very likely choices and 2 other unlikely choices. Then it all trickles down from there: the Rams react to the first player taken, and they have say 3 players they could take and so on.
I’ve read a lot of mock Drafts, A LOT! I’ve been thinking about this draft so much that I even run the mock draft out in my head (as I have a great knowledge of the college players in my head). Creating, reading, and reviewing mock drafts have become the off-season fad this spring. Basically it is a natural progression from the gain in popularity of Fantasy Leagues; trickling down into a much greater awareness of the NFL draft as people try to gain an edge in selecting the unknown rookies. Adding to the trend of fantasy leagues’ increasing interest, the NFL combines were televised this year for the very first time ever (I watched virtually every minute of it).
And until the free agency period is done, so many teams “#1 need” will shift that it becomes mind numbing and plain frustrating! Add to that the reality in the draft is that so many times teams draft great talent and ignore their “needs” . . . you just can’t predict that kinda move outside of getting a lucky call on one crazy pick in an entire mock draft. It’s like trying to figure out what the heck is really going on in the TV show “Lost” . . . you can’t know, because what ever it is . . . in the end won’t make any sense and so many key pieces of the puzzle are just red herrings. There a lot of speculation, misinformation and posturing going on about this draft so just know that before getting excited after reading any mock and thinking you know “your team is going to get such and such.”
Remember: even up to the night before the draft; it’s up in the air! Think back to the Texans and their Friday night signing of Mario Williams (DE-NCst) . . . shocking the football world who had them “having and wanting” to draft Reggie Bush #1! And what did that pick do . . .it made New Orleans scratch out their #2 pick which was going to be Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, who fell into the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
All that being said, I think I have some good theories and a vast knowledge of this draft class. I watch over 200 college regular season footballs games and 30 of the 32 bowls. I play fantasy football with college players and won my league the past 2 years running away with the title easily. As I’ve said, I watched the entire combine coverage, wrap up shows, read a ton of mocks, and reviewed all the NFL team’s needs myself. So FOR WHAT IT’s WORTH (Buffalo Springfield song that Neil Young plays guitar in), you could read my other blogs on who each team should and likely will draft (only the top 8 teams as beyond that it becomes real pointless because of free agency signings). I will also rank the at least the top 10 at all positions. I will go even deeper to reveal the real diamonds in the rough at positions such as RB and WR).
I am a huge Neil Young fan, and this is my first post so I have decided to end my major posts by quoting different NY songs at the end of each that fit the situation.
from the song “ambulance Blues” off of 1974’s On the Beach
“So all you critics, sit alone . . . your no better than me for what you’ve shown . . . with your stomach pumps and hook and ladder dreams . . .we could get together for some scenes.”
and from “Hippie Dream” off of 1986’s Life
“Take my advice . . . don’t listen to me . . .don’t mention nothing . . . that could go unheard.”
